Support

Help build The Merit Academy

The Merit Academy is an independently developed project with an ambitious goal: creating a school-life simulation where the world feels alive, characters have their own lives, and every decision can matter.

From the developer

An independent project with a large idea

I am building The Merit Academy independently, because it is a game I want to exist: a school that keeps living when you look away, full of people who have their own plans for the day.

That is a lot of game for an independent project. It will take time, and I would rather build it properly than quickly. This site exists so the work happens in the open, and so you can always see what is real and what is still on paper.

If you believe in the project and want to help support its development, you can become a supporter on Patreon. Community support is what helps development continue.

For supporters

What supporting might include

None of this is promised yet. These are the things being considered for supporters, listed here so you know what is being thought about. Anything that becomes real will be marked as available.

  • Being considered

    Behind-the-scenes progress

A closer look at work in progress: systems before they are tidy, decisions before they are final.

  • Being considered

    Development previews

Early looks at locations, mechanics and scenes before they appear in the public devlog.

  • Being considered

    Community participation

A say in some of the choices that are still open, from campus details to which system gets attention next.

  • Being considered

    Early testing opportunities

A chance to play test builds once the game is ready to be put in other people's hands.

Ways to help that cost nothing

  • Follow the journal

Read the development updates as they come out. Knowing someone is following is real motivation.

    Read the devlog
  • Tell one person

If you know someone who would enjoy a game like this, send them the site. That is how an audience starts.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is The Merit Academy?

A single-player, narrative-driven school-life simulation and social strategy RPG. You attend an elite academy where your decisions shape your reputation, your relationships, your results and your future.

You go to lessons, prepare for exams, build up your abilities, get to know people, compete with rivals and live with the consequences. The academy around you is simulated: students and teachers have their own schedules and carry on with them whether you are there or not.

What inspired the game?

Stories about elite schools where students compete as much as they study, and Classroom of the Elite most of all. The Merit Academy is made for people who love that kind of story and have wanted to live inside one.

It is an original game with its own academy, rules, story and characters. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the creators or publishers of Classroom of the Elite.

Who is developing it?

The Merit Academy is an independent project, designed and developed by Ferdo Vukojević. There is no studio or publisher behind it.

Is the game playable?

Not publicly. There is a private development build that is used to build and test the systems described on this site, but there is no public demo or test version yet.

Every feature on the site carries a status label so you can tell what already exists in that build from what is still planned.

When will it release?

There is no release date. The game is still in development and I would rather not name a date I cannot stand behind. When there is one, it will be announced in the development journal first.

What platforms are planned?

Not announced yet. The game is currently being built and tested on iPhone. The final list of platforms has not been decided.

Is Patreon required to follow development?

No. The development journal on this site is free to read and always will be, and it has an RSS feed if you would like updates without checking back.

How can people support the project?

Reading the development journal and telling someone who might like the game both genuinely help. If you would like to support development directly, you can join the Patreon page, which is free to follow.
